Bee Extravaganza!!

Over the last two days, Amy and I have been bee exterminating with our nets and shovel! First, we would catch the bee in the net and put it quickly on the ground. Then the catcher of the bee holds the net down, and the non-catcher smacks the bee with the shovel until it's dead. Yes, it may sound strange, but it was adrenaline filled fun! Oh yeah, I forgot to add the part that we were catching and killing these bees because Pookey got stung on the foot when he was walking on the grass. So we're planning to give the 80+ bees that we hand killed, and the dead bees in the traps that we put ham and bacon grease in! Thanks for the exterminating fun, Amy!! Love you all! Xoxo

Braces!

Today July 20th, I got my braces! It was a long and interesting process getting them on and now my teeth hurt really bad, but I'm looking forward to a straight smile going into my high school freshman year! I just thought that you might be curious about some of the things that us braces people are not allowed to eat. So here's the list that stretches across Washington!
I cannot eat: taffy, caramels, M & M's, peanuts, popcorn, snickers, nachos, pepsi/colas/coke, sugar daddies, caramel apples, licorice, jolly ranchers, sugary gum, beef jerky, corn chips, corn nuts, skittles, gummy bears, starbursts, tootsi rolls, ice, jaw breakers, or doritos. Oh yeah and for a smaller list, these are things that I have to cut up into small pieces in order to eat them:
pizza, meats, carrots, celery, pears, apples peaches, raw brocolli, raw cauliflower, and corn CUT OFF the cob. Phew! It's going to be a long year and a half! Lol! Love you all!!!

Horse Camp 2009

July 5th-9th was the week of Horse Camp! I got to ride Peaches, the horse that I rode last year! I had a great time meeting new friends, spending time with friends that I came to camp with, riding four hours a day, the ride to Grouse Creek Falls, camp fires, games, and the horse show! My mom and I spent an additional night at the ranch with Charm and Natalie. I asked Janice (the ranch owner) for a calm and responsive horse such as Taga. Janice thought that Taga would be great. But throughout the entire trail ride, Taga was fighting for her head and trying to eat! So much for calm and responsive lol!! Love you all!! Thanks for reading!

Road Trip Extravaganza/Soccer Game!

Last weekend, Amy, Jacob, Bitsy, and I all had a Wenatchee road trip/soccer extravaganza!! We had lots of fun chatting, playing ds, admiring the views, having tasty snacks, (ranch corn nuts yummmm!!) and chatting some more!! We tied the Wenatchee team 1-1. It was super hot, but it was still fun to play! Thank you soooooo much to all three of you for the 7 1/2 hours in the car and for supporting me during the game! I love you all!! Xoxo!

Mile Run!!

Yesterday at nine forty-five my class had their spring mile run! Okay so usually I dread the event and yesterday was no different. But by the time the run was over I found out that I ran a mile in 8 minutes and 18 seconds! My run in the fall was like 10 minutes and 30 seconds so I've really improved in my running!! It's finally Spring Break!! Daddy, Amy, Zac, Jacob, Jenna, and I are all going to Silver Mountain on Wednesday for a night with the Jensons and then on the weekend we're going to the Couer D' Lane resort for a night with Nana and Boppsy!! I'm so excited! Then after Spring Break we're going to be on the 6th of April and that leaves about two months left of school! Isn't that crazy? I can't wait to here about everyone's Spring Break! First Soccer Practice!!

A while ago, (okay like four weeks ago) Nicole, Allie, Shay, and I all went to the Spokane Arena for Groovy Shoes 2009! Groovy Shoes is where the whole competitive spirit comes in. North Central and Shadle play a basketball game and the side that has the most school spirit wins the Groovy Shoe! Which is also known as an outdated clown shoe that either school gets to display when they win the school spirit. As always N.C. won the groovy shoe and Shadle won the basketball game! At least we can say that our basketball team is better! Hehe! Love you all!!!

Ski Weekend

Last weekend, Daddy, Amy, Zac, Jacob, Jenna, and I (phew!!) all spent a weekend up at Grandpa Tim and Grandma Kris' Condo! We skiied all day on Saturday and had a great time! Jacob and Daddy did some skiing on the magic carpet and almost the bunny hill and did some tubing. Zac, Grandpa, and I (and eventually Daddy) did some runs in Grandpa Tims powder runs and some on bumpy runs. A.k.a survival runs!! I had a great time and thank you so much Grandpa Tim, Grandma Kris, and Anna for having us!!

Ski Weekend

The weekend after last weekend, we had a ski weekend! My mom, Christian, Maisie, Zac, and I stayed up at my Grandma Ann's condo for the weekend. Maisie had lots of fun on the bunny hill, skiing between my mom or Christians legs. Zac, my mom, and I had fun on our two runs up on the big mountain! Although it was short, it was lots of fun!! Outcome of the Egyptian Project

Nickie and I got an A+ on our Egyptian project!! It was so hilarious, for extra credit points, we dressed up in each of our mom's bathrobes and made some funny Egyptian hats! Let's just say we got some double takes and outright laughter. Lol! Anywho we worked really hard on the paragraphs about Hatshepsut, King Tut, and Ramesses ll. We found probably ten pictures and then we had to find pictures of maps of Egypt and the Valley of the Kings. Thanks to Amy for letting us use her cricket in order to make the titles and for showing us how to use it for that matter! Thanks for the support and the encouragement!

New Project!!

In school, we're beginning a new lesson on Egypt. We got the choice to do a project about any Egyptian subject we wanted! I'm doing my project with Nicole (surprise, surprise) and we're doing the project on the pharaohs of Egypt. The pharaohs we are researching are: Pharaoh Hatsheput, who was the first female pharaoh and she also created temples. We are researching Ramses the second who is known for having one hundred children in his life time because of his many wives (Creepy). Lastly we're researching King Tut, the only pharaoh to become a pharaoh at nine years old. He died at the age of nine-teen because of a broken leg complication. King Tut was not the most powerful or important pharaohs but he is as of now, one of the most famous. I'm really enjoying this subject and am excited to begin working on it!!

The First Snow Of The Year!

About twenty minutes ago, I looked outside the living room window and there were big snowflakes falling from the sky! I just about started jumping up and down in excitement. I started thinking about and kind of laughed. The first snow on Thanksgiving Day. This made me realize that Christmas is only about a month away! Goodness, November has just zoomed by! I hope everybody got the oppotunity to see the first snow of the year!!

Sleepover!

Last night, Nickie and I had a sleepover! We played with her new adorable doggy named Bella who happens to enjoy biting peoples feet. It's not always fun if you're the victim but she's still is a lot of fun to play with! We played on the computer on poptropica and club penguin, then watched tv for a while. We happened to go to bed at a reasonable time last night. It was at ten thirty when we happened to actually doze off despite all of the messing around we did while we were on the reclining couch! In the morning we woke up to no power until nine in the morning! It was funny because the power was supposed to be out until one fifteen and then we came downstairs after breakfast and the power was back on! We were literally screaming and dancing around! I had a great time and look forward to the next sleepover with Nickie!!!

In school right now in science, we're doing power points on interdependent relationships between animals. The scientific name for it is "symbioses". It means that a certain two animals depend on each other to survive. I was in school and working on my power point when I really looked at this picture. (I'm using it in my power point). How likely is it that a huge meating eating creature would allow this tiny little morsel of meat and feathers into its mouth without eating it? Well, the plover bird cleans chunks of decaying meat out of the crocodiles mouth. This provides food for the plover and much needed dentistry for the crocodile. There are several other ways that these two animals provide for eachother. I just can't exactly remember them right now. : ) Some other interdependent animals are: the clownfish and the sea anemone, the aphid and the ant, and the shark and the remora fish.

A Visit To Grandma and Grandpa's

On August 10th through 17th I was in Yakima with my Grandma and Grandpa! On Monday, Grandpa and I went on a four hour trail ride in Frenches Canyon. I had a great time learning about Grandpa's childhood, loping : ), and seeing all of the beautiful views! On Tuesday, I got to go to Cash's vet appointment and watch them file down his teeth and clean his sheath. I got to stick my hand all the way into Cash's mouth and feel how bumpy and rough and then smooth his teeth were On Wednesday I had a riding lesson and went to a church dinner. After dinner we took Maddy back to the house, I got to drive the truck back to the house after we got to the gate! On Thursday, Grandma, Maddy, and I went to town to pick up Grandpa's birthday presents. On Friday I rode Sunrise bareback and lunged Cash! On Saturday I rode Cash in the arena and lunged him some more. On Saturday we had Grandpa's birthday party. Maisie, Mackenzie, and Cameron all took turns riding Sunrise with Grandpa. Zac and Uncle Ron both rode Cash. Then I rode Cash in the arena. On Sunday Zac and I both rode Cash in the arena and Maisie rode Sunrise with Grandpa and then we left for Spokane. I had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's and can't wait until the next time I can got to Yakima! Thanks for having me Grandma and Grandpa!!! I love you!

SILVERWOOD!

Yesterday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. I was at Silverwood! The first ride that I went on was Skydiver.It's like a ferriswheel except for the fact that you spin the car around in circles while the ferriswheel is moving really fast! Next I went on Timbre Terror (the rollercoaster) with Kelsi. It was soooo much fun!! Then we went to Super Roundup. After that we went to Boulder Beach and spent like three hours in the wave pool. Then we went on the raft ride at like 8:00 and got totally soaked! Lastly we went on Tremors. I had an absolutely amazing time and am so glad that I could go to Silverwood!

On July 13th through 17th I was at horse camp! I rode a beautiful, gentle, sweet (the list goes on and on) palomino mare named Peaches! I went to camp with my soccer friend Natalie and four other girls named Ayla, Monica, Heather, and Audrey. It was amazing some of the places that these other girls came from. Ayla from Colorado, Monica from Montana, Heather from Walla Walla, and Audrey from a place that I can't remember at the moment.

We had riding lessons twice a day and sometimes a trail ride. We went on an all day trail ride to Grouse Creek Falls on one of the days. The water was sooo cold! I had an amazing time at horse camp and really hope to go there again next year!

This afternoon at 4:00 we went to a BBQ at Megan's house. I had a ton of fun! We played volleyball, ate yummy food, hung out, played tag, and lots of other fun stuff! We have been together for three years now. This year we're splitting up. Maya is going to play for Shadow, Taylor is moving to the Valley, Natalie's going to play for the for the Saber's, and Steph, Hannah, Kiley, Naomie, and I are going to play for the Scotties. I'm so glad for the years that I could spend with my awesome team and the memories that we made together!

Over a couple of days on Spring Break, I got to go to my Grandma and Grandpa Rose's house! They have two horses; Cash and Sunrise. Cash is the sorrel one. Sunrise is the bay one. I got to ride bareback (my favorite kind of riding), ride with a saddle, ride double on Cask with Maddy, go on trail rides in the sagebrush (which was a TON of fun), meet the Nieman girls, go out to dinner, and many other fun events! I can't wait until the next time I can go over there!!!

A few days in Spring Break, we went to Seattle!! We had soooo much fun! We went to the Mariners game, got pedicures (my Aunt Erika, Mom, Maddy, and I anyways), we went to Gameworks, the mall, the Chessecake Factory, Nike Town, Nike Outlet, The Gap, and many other places! We also stayed at the Double Tree Hotel. There was one night when Collin jumped into the pool with ALL of his clothes on! It was hilarious! I can't wait until the next time we go to Seattle!

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallas as the doctor walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery. Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest news. That afternoon of March 10, 1991, complications had forced Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing. At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already knew she was perilously premature. Still, the doctor's soft words dropped like bombs. 'I don't think she's going to make it,' he said, as kindly as he could. 'There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then, if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one' Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived. She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation, and on and on. 'No! No!' was all Diana could say. She and David, with their 5-year-old son Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become a family of four. Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away. But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana. Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system was essentially 'raw', the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort, so they couldn't even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests to offer the strength of their love. There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger. But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of strength there.. At last, when Dana turned two months old. her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time. And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital, just as her mother had predicted. Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life. She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or
physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from the end of her story. One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in Irving, Texas, Dana was sitting in her mother's lap in the bleachers of a local ball park where her brother Dustin's baseball team was practicing. As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, 'Do you smell that?' Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm, Diana replied, 'Yes, it smells like rain.' Dana closed her eyes and again asked, 'Do you smell that?' Once again, her mother replied,
'Yes, I think we're about to get wet. It smells like rain.' Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced, 'No, it smells like Him. It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest.' Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play with the other children. Before the rains came, her daughter's words confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family had known, at least in their hearts, all along. During those long days and nights of her first two months
of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she remembers so well.

Today near the end of the school day Mrs. Hayes came into the classroom and told us the positions we got for patrol. Believe it or not I got the position of a captain! The exact one I wanted! I am the captain for the second semester next year! My friend Shay has it for the first semester, Allie got the position of a liutenant and Nicole got a partol person. Thank you all so much for the support you've given me!

Soccer Season!

Patrol

A few days ago Mrs. Hayes (the person in charge of ASB and patrol) sent letters to all of the 5th graders that were interested in patrol. You are required to write a letter back to her with the position you want and what experiences you've had to prepare you for this job. I am hoping to get the job of a captain. In my letter I wrote about how I play soccer and how you make team efforts and goals in this sport. I also wrote a couple of other things that I can't really remember. But I do know that it sounded good. I don't know whether or not I got the job but I'll make an update post to tell you!

Spelling Bee!

A couple of days ago we had a class spelling bee to see who would represent our class. I won the class spelling bee along with a boy named Jack! My friends Nicole B. Allie and Shay all sat at our table and whispered "go Kayla" every time I would spell a word! The finals will be on February 22nd (which is a Friday) at 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public, so anyone who wants to can come to the the spelling bee!

Today Madison came over for a sleepover! We're going to watch movies, read scary stories (really, really scary stories), and stay up as late as we can! Schweitzer!!

On the weekend we went to the Selkirk Lodge at Schweitzer! On Friday we arrived at the hotel and got settled in. On Saturday we skied for most of the day! My mom and I went into the heated pool and hottub in the 20 degree weather while Zac played volleyball and joined us in the hottub later! We took Maisie skiing but went too far down the bunny hill. Christian carried Maisie up the hill while my mom carried Christian's skis and I carried two sets of poles and Maisie's skis! She ended up being too tired to keep going so she took a break with Christian while mom took us to ski some more! I had a wonderful time and hope to be able to go up again soon! Thank you all for the wonderful time and memories!

I got a new nano!! I've been saving up and was very excited when I had enough to get it! There are three games on it: Klondike (which is like Solitare) Iquiz (quizzes you on the songs that you have) and Vortex (which is like brickbreaker but you go around in a circle). I have over 100 songs already! It can hold 1,000 but I'm not sure I even know of 1,000 songs! I've been having fun listening to it and watching videos and will continue to enjoy it!

On Thursday my friend Nicole came over for a playdate! We listened to my new nano, ate cookie dough, made little friendship pouches (can you guess which one is mine) and played the boardgame Life! I can't wait until the next time she comes over!

On Monday night we went bowling! We played two games. The first game, I didn't do so well. But the second game, I did a lot better! It was so great to be able to spend time with my family and have so much fun!

A Trip To Seattle!

Last weekend we went to Seattle and Aberdeen for Grandpa Jim's memorial service. It was great being able to see everybody and to have fun in Seattle shopping and going to the Science Center! The Science Center was really cool! There was a dinosaur exhibit, a butterfly exhibit and many other exhibits! I rode the monorail for the first time! We stayed at two different hotels that both had swimming pools! I had a great time and am pretty sure that everyone else did too!

This evening my mom and I made some raspberry lemon thumbprint cookies for our neighbors! We plan to make ginger snaps and sugar cookies as well! The raspberry lemon thumbprint cookies turned out great and their smell makes our mouths water!

Kevin listened politely as his elderly neighbor chattered on. "You and my grandson Allen would get along so well together," Mrs Crane was saying. "He really enjoys skating. And did I tell you that he plays football?"
Kevin nodded. "And that he's in my grade in school," he said, "and that he has a baseball card collection."
Mrs Crane nodded happily as she left.
Kevin turned to his mother. "I don't know how often Mrs. Crane has told me about her grandson," he said. "I think I must know just about all there is to know about him. He sounds like a nice guy, but to tell the truth, I'm tired of hearing about him. I wish she'd either introduce us or forget the whole thing."
The next Saturday, it happened! The doorbell rang, and there was Mrs. Crane and a boy about Kevin's age. "Hi, Kevin," said Mrs. Crane. "This is Allen, my grandson." She smiled at Allen. "And this is Kevin," she added.
Allen was visiting his grandmother for a week, so the boys played together often. Both had a great time.
"I'm glad Mrs. Crane finally introduced Allen and me," Kevin told his parents one day. "I knew all about him for a long time, but now I actually know him."
Mom smiled. "You can 'know about,' or you can 'know.' The elimination of one small word makes a lot of difference, doesn't it?" she asked.
Dad nodded. "It's like that when it comes to Jesus, too," he said. "Some people know about Him, yet they don't know Him personally."
"I often think of that at this time of year," added Mom. "Many have heard the Christmas story over and over. But knowing about Jesus isn't enough. It's as useless as knowing about Allen."
Kevin nodded. "I was really tired of hearing Mrs. Crane talk about him," he said. "Knowing somebody personally is so much better than just hearing about him. I'm glad I know Allen now, and I'm especially glad I know Jesus."

THE STORY FOR TODAY:
"This is such fun!" exclaimed Tracie as she tramped along through the snow with the other kids from her church.
"Yeah," agreed Sarah. "It's cool. Mr. Bailey is a good camp director."
Soon they came to a fork in the path. The kids ahead of them took the path to the right. "Wait!" called Tracie. "Mr. Bailey said to turn left at each fork, and then we'll end up back at camp."
The other campers hesitated. "Yeah, but look! This path on the right is full of footprints. There aren't nearly as many in the path to the left," argued one of the boys. "I think we should take the one everybody else used." Most of the kids agreed, and they all continued down the well-trodden path.
Tracie and Sarah didn't know what to do. "Mr. Bailey said to take the fork to the left," insisted Sarah. "I think we should do that."
"I do, too," agreed Tracie. "Let's at least take it for a little way. If we don't get back to camp soon, we can turn around." Sarah nodded, and they started off.
To the girls' delight, it wasn't long before they did, indeed, arrive back at the camp. They explained to Mr. Bailey why the other campers weren't with them. He shook his head. "They'll come to a dead end and have to turn around," he said. "I'll send someone out on a snowmobile just to make sure they're all right. I guess I should have sent a guide along, after all."
During camp devotions that evening, Mr. Bailey grinned at the group. "We have some tired campers tonight," he said. "Most of you took a longer hike than you planned. You didn't follow the directions you were given. You chose, instead, to follow where others had gone." He opened his Bible. "I believe there's a lesson for you in your afternoon hiking experience," continued Mr. Bailey after he read aloud some verses from Proverbs. "The people whose footsteps you followed this afternoon probably didn't know where they were going. Fortunately, they only led you out of your way and not into any danger. But I want you to remember that when you're tempted to forsake the teachings of God's Word in favor of following the crowd, that well-worn path may lead to disaster. Choose God's way every time. The crowd could be wrong, but He is always right!"

HOW ABOUT YOU? Is it hard for you to go a different way from others around you? Do kids tease and call you "chicken" if you don't go along with what they're doing? Sometimes it's easier to join in with the crowd than it is to stand up for what is right, but in the long run, it doesn't pay. The Bible says "the way of the ungodly shall perish." (Psalm 1:6).

On Tuesday my winter break started! Everyone was excited to begin the break! We get two weeks off, repeat TWO weeks off! I've been having a great year so far at school, but I feel like I definitely could take a break from the daily homework, fractions and all of the assemblys that make you feel REALLY sore afterwards! Now I get to sleep in, wear my glasses all day and stay up late reading! Oh yeah!!! Have a great break everyone!

Didn't winter come fast! I love looking out side and seeing everything covered in snow! It looks like a winter wonderland! Winter is a great time to go skiing, go sledding and sip hot cocoa!
